Taffy Tatler 37
28 Aug 2006

“The taffy tatler”…No.37. august, 2006.

SUNDAY TEAM.
Sunday, 6th August, 2006. Home v Mermaid (Friendly)
1-1 draw, scorer Chris VARNEY, I was not present at this game, but from what I have heard it appears that some of the players were ‘still in the pubs and clubs’ whilst the game was played. Something which we will have to stop if we are serious about our game and wanting to do well in the league and cups.

Sunday, 13th August. Away v Ripon (Friendly)
Won 4-0, scorers JAMIE 3 (2 tap-ins and a penalty), Terry BEECH 1 (25 yard fee kick). A superb performance where everyone played really well, well nearly everyone!! The 4-0 score line actually flattered Ripon.

Sunday, 20th August. Away v Osgodby Poachers, Scarborough. (Friendly)
Won 6-1. (Half time 0-0.) Scorers, Jamie with 4, which he took really well. Dave Coward (1) and Chris Varney (1). This was our best performance in a long long time. Chris Coward was excellent on the right wing and supplied some great crosses, he was also unlucky not to score himself. Terry Beech was strong in defence and kept things organised. The goal conceded was due to becoming complacent.

Sunday, 27th August. Home v The Standard (Friendly)
Won 7-1. (Half time 4-0) Scorers Jamie (2) Chris Varney (2) Chris Coward (2) and John McCabe (1). Another solid performance for the majority of the game, we only got ‘sloppy’ in the latter part of the game, Jamie could have scored at least 5.
A number of players were missing for this game, some players were missing who had not informed MAL, this is not acceptable.

Forthcoming fixtures.

Sunday 3rd Sept…no game, training will be held.
Sunday 10th Sept…Home v West Two (1st league game.)

I have noticed that the numbers returning to the Winning Post after training and matches has dwindled dramatically, remember the pub has done a lot for us, we need to show some appreciation.

SATURDAY TEAM (VETS.)

As you will all know by now, Tom SMITH has stepped down from being the Manager of the team and I have taken over this position. Tom has decided he needs to concentrate more on his game and I wish him well and respect his decision, I still feel he has a lot to offer the team. Tom will still be arranging things; I will ‘just’ be making the team selections!!

It has been good to see the numbers coming down on match days, I would still like to see a few more ‘over 40’s’ at training (That’s a Thursday night in case you didn’t know)

Each week we have had some real quality players, not only on the pitch, but on the side line, eager to get on, I hope this continues.

Everyone in the squad is capable and has the ability to be in the starting eleven, and as you can all see there are a number of players available for each position on the pitch. ALL SHOULD BEAR THIS IN MIND AND NOT BECOME COMPLACENT.

In making team selection (and substitutions) as well as ability, I will also be taking into consideration other factors;
-Position to be filled.
-The game itself and how it is going and our need.
-Attendance on match days/commitment.
-Attendance at training/fitness

However, as I am sure it is the same with you all, I want the team to succeed, I want us to win.

Tom has done well for the team, he has got the team started and got us promoted in our first season, no mean achievement. He is still also working hard for the team, arranging the games, kits, referees, attending league meetings etc.(I appreciate MAL also does a lot to assist)

Having just got promoted to the third division, we are, as a team, in ‘unchartered’ territory, but I believe that we are more than capable of holding our own. We have quality in depth, and I believe that we can do well in the league and all of the cups.

I would ask all of you to be patient with me and I am willing to listen. I am not here to teach anyone how to play football, we all know how to do that, I am here to try and take the team forward and pick the team I think is best capable of winning.

I hope we can keep going forward as we have done so far this season in the games we have played to date. (Cheers)

GAMES PLAYED TO DATE..

Saturday, 5th August. Home v Railway Tavern, Darlington. (Friendly)
Won 4-0 (half time 1-0) Goals from Tom SMITH (2) Rayzo (1) Own goal (1 after pressure on the defender by Dave THOMAS.) This was a superb performance from a ‘scratch’ team. Tom SMITH (Man of the Match).

Saturday, 12th August. Home v Wingate. (Friendly)
1-1 draw, Tom SMITH with our goal, windy conditions spoiled the game, this was an indifferent performance, which saw us play in short periods Man of the Match, Jacko

Wednesday, 14th August. Home v Wynyard Vets. (Friendly)
2-2 draw against a team from the 1st Division. We went behind twice but a battling performance saw us pull back level twice, excellent. Goals from Paul McCABE and Ian. Man of the Match, Mickey GOULT.

Saturday, 19th August. Away v Halfway House. (League Cup)
Won 4-0 (Half time 2-0) a great performance which saw us attack the home team from the start and take the lead quite early on. Goals from Neil DOYLE (2) Mal BEAN (1) and Mickey G. (1)..all were top quality. One of the highlights of the game was Daisy’s impersonation of a tortoise as he tried to head the ball, fantastic!!! Man of the Match, Paul McCABE.

Saturday, 26th August. Away v Black Bull, Boldon. (League)
On a ‘dodgy’ pitch with an even ‘dodgier’ referee the team did well to win 2-1. 0-0 at half time, we went 2-0 up with goals from Tom SMITH and Neil DOYLE (Superb free-kick) However then we made problems for ourselves and allowed the opposition back into the game, we failed to mark up at the edge of the box on a corner, the resulting shot was deflected passed Mike KELLY by VIC. (Now he’s never done that before has he!!) We managed to hold on with some ‘time-wasting by Stu HEAP, who managed to do a reverse throw, with the ball ending up going 5 yards away from the pitch, fantastic!
(Down side for this game were the players who had too much beer the night before, which affected their performances.)
