North Riding Cup Semi Final
Redcar Newmarket v Nunthorpe
On a perfect day for football played on a perfect pitch prepared by Malc, Taff, Steve and Peter from the Newmarket committee a credit to local football and thank you for your help yesterday.
The game KO with Newmarket defending well from midfield and defence and like the previous 2 league games in which Nunthorpe were victors they once again run the show only this time John Collinson our coach had the team battling from the KO and Nunthorpe had one half chance otherwise the battle was even and so it stayed until half time.
Newmarket looked far more comfortable after the interval with being a constant threat on the counter attack. And the goal came from Leon Bellerby 1-0 the question was then asked of the Nunthorpe team could they come back they pressed forward and like the first half the Newmarket defence held strong. But at 1-0 the game with 25mins left was still anyone’s game. New legs introduced by Newmarket Jack Reeves and Archie Smithson came on and the second was scored with a well taken goal of the post by Sam Keogh. Again in the latter stages 2 more subs introduced in Michael Urban and Matty Mendum this tactic finally took the steam out of a battling Nunthorpe. A good game of football to take Newmarket to the North Riding Cup Final a game which will be a massive test for the tight Newmarket defence with the opponents being Scarborough F C who are an Academy team and took out our leagues TIBS 6-0 in a previous round.
