THE ‘TAFFY TATLER’.....2018 – 2019 season.
Gents,
Saturday 06/04/2019 home to Grangetown in the Macmillan Bowl. (Last 8.) A 3 – 0 defeat, in a game which we never really got started and were chasing the game from the off.
Again Mal had to ring round to make sure we had some sort of squad and team to enable the game to go ahead. We never managed to achieve the same sort of attitude and passion which we had shown the week before against Redcar Town.
The team – Dale (Captain) Back 4 = Callum, Woody, Rob and Danny Mac.
Midfield = Leon, Lewis G., Hodgey, Marcus and Stu T.
Chris Varney the lone forward.
Subs = Jay (on for Chris V.) Macca (on for Stu T.) Sam (On for Dale.)
We conceded on 3 minutes when Woody attempted to block a cross/shot from the right, the ball deflecting into our goal. Unlucky.
This gave Grangetown a massive boost. We tried to play the ball out from the back, too much in my opinion, Grangetown pressed hard and dispossessed us several times, which caused us problems. Heads started to go, and moaning between players. The week previous we just cleared the ball when needed, relieving the pressure on ourselves, not pretty football, but affective considering the team we had fielded. Plus we then were able to push up the field!
On 11 minutes we nearly conceded a 2nd from a Grangetown corner, Stu T clearing on our goal-line.
18 mins and 2 – 0. As the ball went to the left of our box, Rob missed his clearance, the ball falling for a ‘Town forward, one touch for control and his shot across Dale to the far corner of the corner. In all honesty a decent finish, probably unstoppable.
On 30 minutes Dale produced a great save as ‘Town attacked from the left, followed by a fantastic block by Danny Mac on the follow up shot. Newmarket under pressure now.
Half time 2 – 0. We had done well to keep it to this scoreline.
We were a lot better in the second half, more compact, and now pushing up the pitch.
49 minutes and Grangetown down to 10 men, as their forward wiped out Dale. Nasty tackle, not needed.
Although we huffed and puffed we could not create a decent chance, and the game ebbed and flowed to both ends.
On 65 minutes the contest was over as ‘Town went 3 – 0 up. A quick free kick taken in the away half of the pitch caught us cold, the ball played down the left, into the box, Dale managed to narrow the angle and half saved the shot, the ball deflected across the goal for a free header and goal.
We again pushed for a goal after this, but it wasn’t to be. Bit disappointed with some of the senior players attitudes during the game. I think too much is expected of the young lads coming in to play for Newmarket. It would be better to talk to these lads and encourage them!
90 minutes 3 – 0.
MOM = Marcus. (Worked hard, easy to see how he gets frustrated.) Some positives from the game in that we kept going, and I saw a battling attitude in some of the players.
Good to see Liam J. at pitch side, Dowsey back down and in a pair of footy boots and the re-signing of Sam Thompson.
6 games to go gents, more points to be had!!!

You may have read on the Newmarket web-site, Twitter or Facebook that I am standing down as Manager at the end of this season. It has been a frustrating season, not only for myself, but for Mal, Steve and the lads involved in the background work at the club. Frustrating because we have seen what we are capable of as a team.
When we have the right players, with the right attitudes, this team can match any team in this league and more. With the new Manager coming in, who has a lot more experience than myself in this discipline, I hope that you will do your upmost for him and the club. This club has the potential, let’s make it happen.
I will still be there on match days and training, doing what I can to assist, to push the team, to chase you for your debts, and more.!!!
Thank you.
Taff.
