v STOKESLEY FC
By Mal Bean
THE ‘TAFFY TATLER’.....2018 – 2019 season.
Wednesday 01/05/2019 final home game v Stokesley. A creditable 2 – 0 win against a team which came to defend, starting with a back 5. However, two goals by DOWSEY in the 2nd half gave us the win we deserved.
The team = Dale, back 4 – Callum, Woody, Rob and Dan (Captain.).
Midfield – Leon, Sam, Adam and Lee.
Forwards – Puckers (MOM) and Dowsey.
Subs = Kenny, Andy D., Stu T., Marcus and KC.
After a shaky start where we looked a bit nervous, we settled down and our first chance at goal came on 20 minutes when a cross from the right found Dowsey free at the back post, unfortunately his header went wide.
Two minutes later and a great strike by Leon, right of the away box was parried by the keeper, as Dowsey was about to pounce, the keeper recovered to tip the ball away to safety.
On 32 minutes Dale was called into action with a save low down to his left, the shot from the edge of the Newmarket box as we were caught out at the back.
33 minutes and Dowsey booked for a late tackle. Frustration more than anything. The resulting free kick from about the half way line played into the home penalty area, Dale came out, caught then dropped the ball as he was fouled in the process.
2 minutes later Dale was quick out of his box to clear the ball as Stokesley broke through onto goal.
We huffed and puffed but did not create anymore clear chances.
Half time 0 – 0.
47 minutes Kenny on for Callum. Shortly after, a free kick by Puckers was tipped away for a corner. Eventually cleared.
55 minutes and Leon wiped out on the right wing, bit of ‘handbags’ between both teams, NO card shown.
63 minutes Kieran C. on for Adam, Puckers into midfield.
Stokesley were happy playing for a draw, Newmarket going for the win.
68 minutes 1 – 0 to the home team DOWSEY – KC through on the right, into the box, Dowsey screaming for the ball in the middle, ball played by KC into the 6 yard box, goal.
Stokesley pushed for an equaliser, their main threats being free kicks into the box, and long throws. Dale called into action to palm the ball away from a throw, then showing good hands with a clean catch. On 75 minutes another free kick played from the half way line into the home box saw Dale palm the ball away for a corner before clattering the post, the corner cleared as we defended well.
77 minutes Marcus on for Leon.
85 minutes. 2 – 0. DOWSEY. A free kick from Captain Dan on the left, into the away penalty area, Dowsey able to loop his header over the flapping keeper and under the bar. Game over.
91 minutes and KC through on goal, his effort straight at the Stokesley keeper.
Full time 2 – 0. Well done to all, especially PUCKERS for MOM.
Last game of the season Saturday 04/05 New Marske away. Meet at their ground for 1.00pm.
Now for the boring, but important stuff – finance. The debt list.
Rob - £35-00
Leon - £8-00
Stu T - £2-00
Ryan H. - £6-00
Peter Passman - £21-00
Dan Mac - £3-00 (subs from last night’s game only.)
We need these sorting on Saturday, or before if possible. People have been promising to sort these debts out, but never have done. I have discussed the matter with Mark and Mal, and IF need be, the person owing will not be eligible to play until the money owed is paid. Bad that we have to do this, but people have been taking the ‘Micheal’ for too long!!
The players, quite rightly want better training facilities next season, the club wants to improve in every aspect, this costs money. The club ‘commitee’ will do it’s best to support this, BUT the players need to do their bit by paying their subs on time, and any fines ‘they’ have collected. We have recently had a large bill from Ryehills School for pitch, training fees, and they have put their prices up. Shortly, Mal will have to pay for next season’s league and cup entries, and as I have already mentioned that home games as of next season will be just short of £100 a game! This is a non-profit making club, but it is not cheap to run.
The future looks good gents, do not let the side down!
