V BORO RANGERS
By Mal Bean
THE ‘TAFFY TATLER’.....2018 – 2019 season.
Saturday 09/03/2019 home to Boro Rangers, always a tough fixture, even more so when you have so many players missing for one reason or another! Hence, another team selection, with more changes.
Losing 8 – 1 looks bad, but watching the game I cannot fault the attitude and some decent battling performances.
The team = Dale, Callum, Lewis G. (Baptism of fire.) Conrad and Peter Passman
Lee J., Lewis U. (Captain.) Marcus, Adam and Leon.
Subs = Andy D. on for Conrad and Stu T. On for Lee J.
We went against the wind in the first half, which no doubt contributed to the Rangers goals. The worst possible start when we went 2 down within 2 minutes. But credit to the lads, and Lewis Upton
, they continued to battle hard.
However, on 20 and 21 minutes we conceded two more. These goals came from corners, which I think looking back, we could have been a bit stronger in defending, but the wind did play a big part.
Again we battled hard, and started to push forward. We had to move players around as Conrad had to come off and Andy D came on. (25 minutes.) But we settled down and conceded no more goals.
Half time 0 – 4.
Second half we had the wind, which had died slightly. On 48 minutes we conceded a 5th when Jamie lost possession on the left, the ball fell to a man unmarked in the middle who slotted home. Bit disappointed we did not chase back on this one!
On 52 minutes Leon hit a cracker of a shot from 25 yards, looked as though as it was heading for the top corner until the away keeper pulled off a great save. The resulting corner was cleared from the away goal line, Rangers a bit rattled at this point.
59 minutes and 6 -0, as Rangers broke from defence, poor Andy D outpaced as he chased back, but the lad tried. Dale beaten easily as he tried to close the angle.
65 minutes and 7 – 0. Free kick from the right, hit hard and low, man free inside the box for a tap in. Got to question why a free kick was given when Callum won the ball in the first place!!
68 minutes and 8 – 0. Shot from the edge, Dale flat footed. Some heads were down now, but the team as a whole kept going.
79 mins and 8 – 1, one of the first times when we used the wind to our advantage and played the ball into the Rangers box from distance, caused a goalmouth scramble which CALLUM scored from.
We had another couple of half chances after this but no more goals.
Full time 8 – 1. A game where we were out-muscled at the wrong time.
MOM = ADAM, tried throughout to create chances. Mention also to Lewis Upton
and Marcus who both battled hard in the middle. But as I have stated, some encouraging, battling performances.
16/03 – Stockton West End away. (L)
23/03 – Bedale home (Cup).
