Match report

Today Newmarket took the long trip to Wolsingham down to the bare bones with Jones still injured and Karlsson who has had trouble with his knees all season finally admitting he needs to rest, We had 11 men with many of them playing out of position to do the job against a top Wolsingham side who are one of the best sides in the league!!!!First half kicked off and on a soft bobbly pitch which was cutting up Newmarket were knocking the ball about superbly, Wolsingham were resorting to some heavy tackles to try and put the Newmarket boys in there place but the lads responded by matching the strong tackles which made it a real high tempo game, 15mins in McNeil lifted a ball over from halfway to Carragher in the box who then took a touch and slotted it home neatly, Wolsingham ko Carragher slammed them straight back in there place charging down their ko and robbing the CM to play in Davison who fought off the big strong LB and get a shot off for the keeper to save well, Newmarket went close through Smith, Scott & Davison again but the keeper did well. A bit of controversy for the second as a great ball in from Davison was meet by the head of Smith which hit the post and then rolled across the goal line which it looked over as all the Newmarket lads appealed but ref ignored, a goal mouth scramble was ended with Smith burying it to make sure. The Wolsingham LB burst forward down the wing only for McCormick to track him back and smash in a perfectly timed challenge then stand up with the ball at his feet, run down the right wing and cross to pick Scott out at the left stick to blast home for 3-0, unbelievable work by McCormick, Big JACK SMITH was being a right menace up front and the two CB where struggling to cope with him!!HTThe second half Wolsingham came out looking fired up and wanting to get a break through but RN makeshift defence were looking solid, with our midfield controlling the game tackles continued to go in and the tempo was high, anxiety was at full flow for us managers/coaches. Smith, Scott & Davison we're still applying pressure but not as many chances were coming as the lads must of been knackered towards the end on the heavy pitch with no subs, Wolsingham took there first clear cut chance of the game with the CM tucking home from the edge of the box, RN then lifted to another level as Wolsingham looked fired up, keeping them off the bell and playing out the remaining minutes without too much pressure...... unbelievable performance from the boys, on their day they are well and truly the best team in this league all the lads did what I asked of them and stepped up and gave 110% for a interesting run in for what has been a great league/season!!!MOM - JACK SMITH - what a shift the big lad put in today, none stop working, holding the ball up, he played as a proper centre forward and got a goal as a reward, it says a lot when the opposition's parent is screaming at his son that the big lad is bossing the game, then leaves the match in a sulk as he can no longer watch, haha!!!
